Our motto “Quality Education First” is at the core of everything we do as a school. When our founders, Jack and Janet Murray, began the school in January 2002, it was because they believed English teaching in China could be improved. As an after-school program they saw a need to offer “quality” education, using native speakers, thus providing students with access to better oral English and improved language skills. Back in 2002, English after-school programs were rarely offered by native speakers, and in the Chinese public schools spoken English was just a minor part of what was taught. Over time this methodology has proven effective and has kept our school in business and growing. We began with a single location and we have 10 locations in Changchun and over 25 foreign teaching staff. Although our founders are no longer with the company their philosophy lives on and it’s what sets us apart from other after-school programs.
At Perfect English it’s our policy of ENGLISH ONLY that truly sets us apart. We do our best to ONLY use English when teaching, and while our younger students may need help from time to time with comprehension, we only permit Chinese in the classroom at those times. We strongly believe that having children immersed in the language is the key to success in learning the language. Our brand of English immersion sets us apart from the competition. Parents trust us, and the results can be seen through their children’s improved English skills.
In 2012 we wrote our own curriculum for young learners. Our early learner books were designed with phonics as a platform and easy to learn structure patterns for young children. Our teachers are encouraged to use this platform and then build upon it. The books allow for creativity in the classroom and expanded language to develop in a natural way.
We have a pathway for learning English:
Lessons are one hour twice per week, higher levels have one class per week for 2 hours.
It’s important to note that while we have books, it’s the teachers that make the difference. The books provide the framework but it’s our teachers who build upon that platform. We make learning fun but we never forget it must also have a purpose, with visible results.
At the highest level, the coursework is based on years of experience working with students who will attend college abroad. The emphasis at this level is to teach: vocabulary, oral, listening, reading, and writing skills at the college level.
